Why 3 sisters built Breadcrumbs
Ending the 15-tab family hotel search nightmare
Every parent knows the scene. It is 10 PM on a Tuesday. The kids are finally asleep, the house is quiet, and you finally have an hour to yourself. You open your laptop to start planning your next family vacation, full of optimism. You type a simple search into Google: top hotel destinations in Italy for families.
You get hundreds of results.
Two hours later, you have 15 browser tabs open. You are toggling between Booking.com, Airbnb, and trip forums, trying to answer basic questions that standard travel sites completely ignore. You find yourself zooming in on user-submitted photos to see if a bedroom actually has a real door or just a curtain. You try to figure out if "babysitting available" means a vetted on-site kids’ club with daytime staff, or just a phone number written on a sticky note at the front desk.
By midnight, you have made zero progress. You close your laptop feeling exhausted and wonder if taking a trip is even worth the headache.
We have been in that exact spiral more times than we can count. And it got us thinking: why hasn't travel booking caught up with what parents actually need?
The problem with generic search filters
Standard booking platforms were built for solo travelers and couples. They excel at filtering by price, star rating, or whether a property has a pool.
When you have kids, those high-level filters become secondary. What actually determines whether your vacation feels relaxing or chaotic comes down to granular logistics.
Standard platforms care about bed counts. They do not track whether a room has blackout curtains so your 18-month-old can take an afternoon nap. They rarely clarify if a "family suite" is one open room with a rollaway bed shoved into a corner, or if it provides a separate space where adults can sit with the lights on after 8 PM.
Generic sites cater to the broad masses. They do not capture the operational details that parents spend hours trying to uncover on their own.
Three sisters, six kids, and one shared obsession
That is why we decided to build Breadcrumbs.
We are three sisters who grew up with a deep passion for travel. Some of our favorite childhood memories involved counting down the days on a calendar before a summer trip, or getting our bags packed months in advance.
Then we grew up and had children of our own. Between the three of us, we had six kids in a span of just three years (lucky grandparents)!
Our love for travel did not disappear, but the complexity exploded. Our first big multi-family trip together (six adults, three toddlers) was to Japan. It was an incredible adventure, but the research process took nearly as long as the trip itself. We spent dozens of hours confirming elevator access, true room configurations, crib policies, and dining arrangements.
We realized we were constantly doing manual detective work just to book a simple stay. So, we decided to combine our skill sets and fix the system ourselves.
Who we are
Here is who we are behind the screen:
- Tiffany (Product & Tech): Living in the Bay Area with two kids (ages 3 and 1), Tiffany has spent a decade in UX and product design. She takes messy, scattered travel data and turns it into a clean, intuitive site that saves parents hours of searching.
- Christine (Operations & Customer Experience): Based in Austin with two kids (ages 5 and 1), Christine has owned and operated two local businesses for ten years. She handles our property partner relationships, daily operations, and customer support.
- Brittany (Revenue & Growth): Living in Berlin with two kids (ages 3 and 1), Brittany has been a sales leader across multi-national organizations in North America and Europe. She manages our strategy, partnerships, and global growth.
We are parents first. We built Breadcrumbs because we wanted a better tool for our own family trips, and we knew millions of other parents needed it too.
What we do differently: human-verified details
When we started building Breadcrumbs, we set out with a simple goal: do the deep-dive research upfront so parents can skip the stress and get straight to looking forward to their trip.
As we started digging into properties around the world, we found incredible stays. We uncovered places with supervised childcare accepting infants from 30 days old, hotels with dedicated toddler splash zones, properties stocking full baby equipment in the room, and stays featuring daily egg-picking at on-site animal farms.
The problem was not that these properties did not exist. The problem was that standard search engines buried all these incredible features under generic checkboxes.
We built a dedicated platform that highlights those exact operational details:
- We curate a shortlist instead of dumping thousands of unvetted options on you. When we expand into a new region, we review properties claiming to cater to families and only feature the ones that pass our strict criteria.
- We check with hotels directly. We confirm physical room setups, real door separations, kids' club age brackets, and crib availability.
- We ask the specific questions you care about. Is the kids' club a true drop-off program with lunch provided, or do parents need to stay on site? Does the room have a bathtub with a handheld showerhead? Is there a mini-fridge for milk and snacks?
- We share the complete picture, including the drawbacks. If a great property sits at the top of a steep hill that is tough to navigate with a stroller, or if the main pool restricts children under 12, we call it out directly. You deserve honest data so you can pick what works for your specific routine.
Giving great hotels the platform they deserve
This approach helps parents save time, but it also gives incredible hotels the recognition they deserve.
Hotels around the world invest heavily in family amenities, from specialized suites to creative kids' programs. On standard booking sites, all that hard work gets flattened into a basic bullet list. We give our hotel partners a dedicated space to showcase the thoughtful work they put into welcoming families.
We also know that hotels change over time. Schedules shift, amenities get updated, and staff change. We continually re-verify our property data so that what you read on Breadcrumbs matches what you experience when you check in.
Right now, we are laser focused on curating the absolute best family stays across the Alps region, with plans to expand into new destinations over time.
We are so excited to build this alongside a community of parents who love to travel.
Welcome to Breadcrumbs, and happy planning!
